afternoon inspiration: the Earth Harp

The Earth Harp, invented in 1999 by William Close, is the longest stringed instrument in the world. The instrument is set up using the surrounding architecture (buildings, natural landscapes, etc) so that the instrument actually becomes a part of the architecture..."the environment and architecture are transformed by the strings, forever changing the perception of those who see the installation."

Close and his Earth Harp Collective have traveled all around the world giving some pretty magical performances, so be sure to check out this one below and read this interview from The New York Times for insight on Close's vision for the Earth Harp.
